increasing community wellbeing through identity-based self-reliance
Revitalizing identity-based innovation and technology to increase the Comprehensive Wellbeing of marginalized communities is the cornerstone of the work of the Samavāya™ initiative of the Śramani Institute. We have witnessed first-hand the phenomenal power of human ingenuity rooted in diverse community-based identities to self-reliantly, effectively, and sustainably address the 5 Major Human-Ecological Challenges (poverty, hunger & ill-health, violence & disenfranchisement, environmental degradation, and identity loss) we face globally.
We have worked with communities who have lived for millennia in mountain ecosystems, causing them to develop resource-preserving innovations and technologies in materials engineering, architecture, and pharmaceuticals. We have also worked with communities who for centuries have inhabited desert ecosystems, causing them to develop sustainable water management systems, biodiversity-preserving practices, and drought-resistant foods. These are merely a few examples of our beneficiary communities, who for centuries and millennia have self-reliantly developed sophisticated innovations and technologies that increase interconnected wellbeing and prosperity according to Samavāya™ (the principle of inter-connectedness).
